More boxes honoring the Simsbury Light Opera Company in Simsbury, CT.

Time: one hour
Difficulty: moderately easy

Clues: (REVISED 8/22/12)

On Rt. 10 in Simsbury, at the traffic light at the intersection with Drake Hill Rd., turn in toward the church parking area, but bear to the right. The white building with pillars is the Boy Scout Hall that was originally built as the town hall and was used as such until 1932. Park to the right of the building.

At the north corner of the parking lot is a trail into Belden Forest, a small secluded area that is dominated by 100-foot-tall pines. There has been a considerable amount of tree damage over the years of which you will see much evidence.

You will notice that the trail is marked by yellow blazes. Follow these uphill to the “T” intersection and take a right onto the blue trail. (Yellow goes ahead - we’ll return on that one.) When you come to a sharp right angle turn to the left, look for a long fallen log on the left. Look beyond the root end of the fallen log to the gnarley roots for the Yoemen of the Guard. Please seal bags carefully and hide completely. This spot can be seen from the trail so take extreme care in re-concealing.

Continue on the blue trail in the same direction. Watch for blazes carefully. Blue will turn right while yellow continues ahead. Stay with blue for now. You will see houses to the right. Blue will turn left and downhill getting away from the houses a bit though you can still see them. When you have passed between second set of 2 tall sentinel trees, look to the right and see 4 brown garage doors at 60*. Stop, take 20 paces at 250* to a fallen tree behind a big pine. Ahead and right-ish, you should be able to see 3 (or more)upright dead trees, the first of which is a 20 ft. stump. Go to this one with a mossy log by it. The Gondoliers are under the log about 4 ft. to the right of the tree. Please reseal bags carefully.

Return to the blue trail and continue on keeping to the blue at each intersection. You won’t miss the huge trees that have fallen! More houses can be seen on the right. Watch for the left turn onto the yellow trail and take that. You will be very close to a road. When you see more blue blazes, ignore them. Continue on the yellow. You should come to several old cut logs mostly on the left. At the tree with a yellow blaze between the last old cut log and an old stump look left and find two trees with a fallen member between them. The fallen member has deteriorated considerably. Go to it. If you cross over a naked fallen tree you have gone too far. Look behind for Utopia, Limited. Again, be sure to seal the bags carefully and cover the box completely.

Continue on the yellow trail until you come to more blue. Let’s go left here on blue for 5 paces, turn 90* to the left and count 12 paces to a tree with an interesting knobby base. Probably have to go over or around small fallen branches. Slightly beyond is a small 8 inch stump with a few partridge berry leaves around it. Three steps ahead check the back side of a small mossy log for Trial By Jury. Re-conceal carefully and completely.

Return to the blue trail, then straight, back to yellow. Continue on yellow. When you see large spider legs on the left, look for small spider legs on the right. Check the roots on the west side for the Grand Duke. Reseal and replace carefully, please.

Continuing on, you’ll pass blue again going off to the left but follow yellow back to the parking lot.
Let me know how you make out.
