BWO- Blue Wing Olive……..My son and I made a special trip to the McCloud River today to catch a McCloud River Red Band Trout; and we were finally successful with a BWO. We started above the Upper Falls and worked our way up stream, we only saw one trout all day in the flater sections. so we went to the very upper end of the drainage ... where we caught a Red Band below the one lane bridge...now our secret fishin’ hole. But first back to the box, its hidden under the watchful eye of Mount Shasta. Turn east from Highway 5 on Highway 89..continue past McCloud (8.7 miles) to the View Area 18.1 miles from the freeway. Stop to look at Mt Shasta. GREAT VIEW while looking at Mt Shasta go to the left end of the wall. Take a heading of 280° magnetic 20 feet to the hollow stump. The box is hidden in the shared hollow with a Geo-cache box, please put them both back so the geo-cachers can find their little box. If you want to try your luck at catching a McCloud River Red Band just follow the directions in the box. It’s just ten miles further east and a couple of miles off the road to the south. Even if you don’t fish, at least drive east ten miles on the highway so you can catch the view on the way back.
