Hello cowgirl in the sand
Is this place at your command?
Can I stay here for a while?
Can I see your sweet sweet smile?
Old enough now to change your name
When so many love you is it the same?
It's the woman in you that makes you want to play this game.

-Neil Young, Cowgirl in the Sand

This letterbox will take you to Topanga State Beach along PCH between Malibu and Santa Monica, where it is fabled that Neil Young wrote the song "Cowgirl in the Sand." This is a really nice, quiet beach!

The beach is not far north of Topanga Canyon Road on PCH. Just after the Chart House Restaurant you will see a little strip of parking lot on your left. Turn into the parking lot, pay the $8 parking fee (this helps keep the beach clean and the bathrooms bearable! - it's discounted if you come early in the morning or in the late afternoon/evening) and put your sunscreen on.

After enjoying your day at the shore, hunt for the box. Begin by standing on the paved driveway (down the stairs from the parking lot) so that the bathroom building is on your right and PCH and the parking lot are on your left. Walk forward, noting the stumpy looking posts on your right. Go past six, then go about 3/4 of the way to the seventh. Now turn toward the ocean and find the small bougainvillea with a tree growing out the top of it. The box is in the base of the bush, at the foot of this tree. There are a few rocks around it. If you want, you can go stamp at some of the picnic tables on the other side of the restrooms. As always, rehide well when finished and be stealthy.
