The Giving Tree Series

This series is based on the children’s book by Shel Silvertein titled “The Giving Tree”.

You need to find your way to the East side of Lake George Regional Park and park in the lot on the right for the boat launch. Find the beginning of the trail on your left that is marked with a “B”. Maps are available here and you should take one! The letters denote intersections along the way.

Start your journey at the “B” and continue up hill to a slight clearing and a stand of white birch. You will past through a stone wall. With the wall on both sides of you, look to the left end corner for box #1, The Tree.

Continue on this path after stamping. Pass intersection “C”. The rock wall will disappear and reappear again, with a piece jutting off to the right. Continue on, following blue blazes. When you reach the far corner of the wall, where the wall turns left off the trail, stand next to the multi-trunked tree and the white blaze and take 20 paces. Look to your right off the trail for a 3 trunked tree and a boulder for box #2, The Boy.

Continue on the trail. Pass intersection “I”. Carefully watch on your right for intersection “O” which has a pink blaze. Count 2 pink blazes before intersection “N” . With the “N” on your right, take 5 paces to the rock pile and box #3, The Apple.

Continue on the trail. When you find the “M” intersection (lots of white and pink blazes all around) go right (following the pink blazes). Take the “L” intersection and keep straight. The rock wall appears again. Continue through it. Not far along you will come to the “F” intersection. Keep straight again. When you reach the “E” intersection turn left. Pass a double white blaze on the right, a pink blaze on the left, and then a single white blaze. From this white blaze count 14 paces (do not pass the next pink blaze!). Look to your right for a 6 trunked cedar and box #4, The Branches.

Go back to the “E” intersection. Follow straight to the “D” intersection and go left to the rock wall and the pink blaze on the left. In the cedar tree shaped like an L look for box #5, The Trunk.

Now your hike begins!! Go back to the intersction where the letter “D” is. At the “D” intersection go left onto “C”. As you come off the “C” connector trail go right. Hope you are good with your letters!

At “I” go left.
At “O” go left.
At “P” go left.
At “R” go left.
At the end of “R” go left.
“S” is just around the corner.
At “S” go left.

Soon you will go over a cedar post bridge (erosion) and cross 2 fairly new wooden bridges.
At the end of trail “S”, walk down a wooden ramp. At this junction, you will see a yellow sign with a black arrow. Take a right here. Go just a short ways and on the right you will see a big boulder and a well cap with a blue top. Between the boulder and the well (closer to the boulder) is an old birch stump. Covered with rocks behind the stump lies the prize that you seek.

Take the box back with you to the trail and continue DOWN the trail to the end, where a lovely stamping spots awaits you.

Please rehide all boxes well!
