THE GODS AND GODDESSES OF ANCIENT EGYPT (PT 1)
It is rightly said that the 'Dawn of Conscience' occurred in Ancient Egypt. There was belief in a 'Great God', the supreme deity from which all else came, and from which emerged Ma'at, the quality of being in right-relationship with the surrounding world.
There were the roots of morality and ethics, the idea that this life was a passage into the next, and that what happened on that passage was determined by one's conduct in the here and now. These concepts were the anchor of Egyptian life, and were well in place five thousand years ago.
Egyptian gods and goddesses were personifications of essential aspects of human life, representing the most powerful and potent forces. These forces are exactly the same today. In these letterboxes, you will meet the twelve gods and goddesses (1st four are in this series). Chosen for their well-defined characteristics and the strength of their influence--and the forces they personify.

Hidden at the Caratunk Refuge in Seekonk, Mass. A meandering 3-4 miles roundtrip. No dogs or bikes are allowed here. To get to the refuge, take exit 1 from I-195. Follow Rte. 114A north for 3 miles and turn right onto Newman Ave (Rte. 152) for 2.2 miles. Turn right on Brown Ave. The refuge entrance is on the right past the country club (about a mile). A sign mentions a $1 fee per person to put into the little birdhouse. Not a bad deal for some nice trails.
We checked up on these on 9-7-04. All are in good shape. Only a few more pages left on the first 3!! Thanks for visiting! We plan on adding new logbooks to these soon!

CLUES:

Once parked, check the right side of the building to sign in/drop a dollar into the little birdhouse. Find the red trail to the right of the field. Follow, passing a trail to the right which leads to 2 observation posts. At the next Y, go right (red trail), over a wooden bridge and on to a small pine grove.
In this grove, spot the break in the SE end of the stone wall. 13 paces Westish along the SW side stone wall, just past the fallen tree crossing the wall, look in the wall for "BAST". Rehide well please!!!
Return to Red and continue....Over another bridge and onto a boardwalk. Take a right at the bench. Cross a small wooden bridge to an intersection with yellow. Take a right here (yellow).
At next intersection head straight on, past another bench and along a stone wall. At Y, you can go either way, you'll see!
Come to Monument Rock. 28 pace along the trail at 148°, check the SW side of the wall, next to a tree of 2 for "RA". Re-hide well please!!!
Return to Monument Rock and continue on yellow at 63°. At next intersection go right (yellow). At next intersection, take a right over the bridge (blue). Follow this up an incline to walk along some power lines.
At T, go left, still along the power lines. Keep a sharp eye out for blue to head right into the woods!! Ignore a side trail to the right immediately after turning right here to go straight on blue. Reaching a Y at a bench, go right. At "Bog" intersection, head left. Straight would bring you to some swolliW.
On to a boardwalk which passes a bog (dry when we were here). Continue to a T. At the T, check that rockpile next to that tree on the hill at 293°. "HORUS" should be resting there. Re-hide well please!!!
Back to the T to follow the trail at 37°. Follow this trail, to a clearing, going straight thru this clearing, past a "valley of ferns" to the left (when we were here that is!) and back into the woods, over a "boulder bridge". At the 4 way, near a big tree, go right onto this small trail. Follow to a field and past an observation post.
At T, right, At Y, left (yellow). At 4 way (yellow cross trail sign), go left. Find the stone wall a short ways down on the left. 20 paces along the wall on the SW side, check the wall for "HATHOR". Please re-hide well!!!
Retrace your steps back to the 4 way (yellow cross trail sign), now go 14°. At T, go left then a quick right. Past a floating platform, where my picture was taken! Take one yourself!
Continue on, to a field, pass a trail to the left, check out the birdlife here. They have their own Condo! Pass another trail to the left and your starting point should be in sight.

Hope you and fun along the trail! Please let us know the status of these boxes when you find them! Team Primate thanks you!

Here are some pictures of we took along the way...........
