This box commemorates our 1st anniverserary.

On our honeymoon, we were overnighting on our way to Hells Canyon, found this site and stayed for a week. We did make it to Hells Canyon but only stayed long enough to take in the view.

This is our special place.
The stamp is sort of a copy of the local troop.
From Joseph, Oregon, take Wallowa Lake Road and continue to the end of the road. The main trailhead is on the left. Parking is on the right at the day use area.

Walk thru the day use area past the potties. You will come to a ditch/creek, cross it. You will notice that you are now in a small private campground. Walk thru site #5, cross the bridge and stop in front of the stump. You will see a beautiful tree with the cliff behind it, isn't it awesome? Listen to the water, is the stream rushing and full or have they turned it off? OK, sorry about that, I get carried away just thinking about it. There is a large rock at 194 degrees look for the scout stamp behind and under the rocks. PLEASE be sure to hide this carefully as it is in a very popular area. The chipmunks are quite handy and if it is not covered well with the rocks, they may take off with it... if not them, the deer may think there is a treat inside just for them!

If you take the trail, be careful, there are some tricksy spots. Also, if you go to the right you will come to the main river crashing and tumbling down from Chief Joseph Mountain. Across the other side you can see the boy scout camp and the structure which was partially destroyed by the last major mud slide and flash flood. Continue up the trail to a wonderful waterfall and on up Chief Joseph Mountain.

Take the Trameway if you have the time and clear weather, it is worth the ride to the top of Mt. Howard and visit the viewpoints. If you have kids, be sure to bring critter food for the chipmunks. I got a picture of a boy with 2 chipmunks sitting on his backpack while he was wearing it.
