THE GODS AND GODDESSES OF ANCIENT EGYPT (PT 3)
It is rightly said that the 'Dawn of Conscience' occurred in Ancient Egypt. There was belief in a 'Great God', the supreme deity from which all else came, and from which emerged Ma'at, the quality of being in right-relationship with the surrounding world.
There were the roots of morality and ethics, the idea that this life was a passage into the next, and that what happened on that passage was determined by one's conduct in the here and now. These concepts were the anchor of Egyptian life, and were well in place five thousand years ago.
Egyptian gods and goddesses were personifications of essential aspects of human life, representing the most powerful and potent forces. These forces are exactly the same today. In these letterboxes, you will meet the twelve gods and goddesses (4 more are in this series). Chosen for their well-defined characteristics and the strength of their influence--and the forces they personify.

Boxes are hidden in the Arcadia Management Area where hunting is allowed during hunting season so please wear orange during this time!

Hike is 5 miles or so thru various terrain. To park, take Rt 165 west from Rt3 about 3 miles and turn right onto Frosty Hollow Rd (at the church). In about a mile you will come to Frosty Hollow Trout Pond on the right. Park in the small lot on the right.

Clues: Once parked, return to the road and cross the bridge and take an immediate left onto white. Follow, north thru an open area of pines and a few buildings. At a big Y, go left (white). Thru a pine forest. When the trail swings right, then down thru a stone wall (we saw a deer in this area!), watch for a trail on the left (White), take this trail.
Follow this for close to a mile, thru more pines. Soon you will see a field thru the trees and come to a Y. White will go left. For now, go right and soon come to a stone wall off trail to the SE. (before the field). Check the SW corner of the wall for MA'AT. Rehide well please!!!
Back track to the Y and follow white this time, thru the field and come to a sandy road and take a left, on and over a bridge, then a right back into the woods (white). Follow, over a wooden bridge to a Y. Go left here, still on white. At next Y, go right (white).
Up the hill, past some "old egyptian ruins. At the old egyptian "furnace" white goes west, follow it.
At the 4 way, take a right into the woods (white). Follow. A broken stone wall will join you on your left. Follow to a white blazed pine on the left of trail. At this tree turn 180° and retrace your steps by 7 paces, to a flat rock and pine of 2 on your right now. Check the clump of stones behind the pine of 2 for "ANUBIS". Rehide well please!!!
Back on white heading 349°. At Y, go left. (White goes both ways here). Follow up hill to a boulder strewn ravine. Near the start of this bouldery area, look for 2 huge boulders joined by a split on the SW side of the trail. Bushwack to the SW side of these 2 boulders and find the tree of 2. 2 paces NW from this tree, check the NE overhang of a medium rock, under sticks and twigs, for "SELKET". Rehide well please!!
Continue on white to a T. Go left here (yellow). At Y, left (yellow). Up to the top of Penny Hill, continue on yellow, down to a dirt road. Take a left here. Pass a dirt road on your right (Brook Tr). After this, soon notice the beginning of an old road on your left, made impassable by some rocks/overgrowth. An old stone wall leads E/SE here. 35 paces along the wall, check the N side of wall near the tree of 2, look for "SEKHMET". Rehide well please!!!
Continue E on dirt road, over bridge, past field, past the Camp on left. Right before the next dirt road on your right, notice the trail paralleling the road. Follow this trail south. This will lead you back to the bridge at the beginning of your trek.
Hope you had fun. Let us know how the boxes are doing. Thanks!
