Easy with one steep hill
Coming from the intersection of routes 198 and 44, take 44 West for about 1 mile.
Coming from the intersection of 44 and 89 take 44 East for about 3 miles. There will be a pull off with a blue sign on each side of the road noting the Natchaug Trail. Park here. Take the trail South.
Saint Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of ecology & animals.
I chose this location to hide the patron of ecology because I think it is one of the most beautiful spots I have found while boxing.
Walk down the path. You will pass 4 right turns. Turn 4 has 4 large cement cylinders next to it. Continue to right turn 5. Turn onto the 5th right. There is a hill with an evergreen to it’s left. Continue on the trail passing through a zig zag of mountain laurel. Upon exiting the mountain laurel you will come to an area of evergreens. Go to the 1st large tree on the right of the path with a blue blaze. Look at it’s base doesn’t it make a great seat to look at the great view of the stream? Are we still in CT? I could just sit here all day and look down at the stream. Ok stand at the large tree and turn your back to the stream. Walk 15 paces into the wooded area. You will step over a fallen log to a tree with a hollowed base. There you will find St. Francis.
Rehide well.
