Huntington

Urban Parkland, mostly easy terrain, some paved paths, some unpaved path.

I-90 to SR 252 Columbia Road, turn north,then left on Lake Road, 3.2km Proceed to old Huntington estate, now park. Turn right or left and park anywhere. You can visit the beach, the wrong direction for the box you seek but the right direction for the famous Honey Hut (orange blossom or raspberry ice cream!). From the beach area take the underground passage south and follow back to road and south to paved trail.
The park was once part of the 100 acre Huntington farm and estate. John Huntington was born in Preston England and emigrated in 1852. He did some work for Standard oil and was asked to become a partner. He was educated in England, was very progressive, held several patents, and served on Cleveland city council. His country estate became a park in 1927. As you walk south you can see the old Dover Railway station, now used for Baycrafters gallery and studio. The Playhouse was originally the stable and looks like a barn, but it’s not original (the original barn burned down).
Walk down the valley and up the other side. The concrete trestles just past the creek are what are left of the Lakeshore Electric Company interurban trolley that ran from Cleveland to Toledo. This trestle was the second longest on the rail line at 441 feet. At the top of the hill take the road to the left. Go east to the sign "Authorized vehicles only". Take the paved trail due east 202 m, take dirt path south 167 m, when trail branches west continue south 18 p, then due west 13 p, then north 7 p. The box is under a large fallen branch. Retrace steps to path and continue west to picnic area, due west you can find the Nature Center and Planetarium. The road takes you back to your car. Happy trails
