Travel to the summit of Red Mountain Pass.

Stand facing the sign for Red Mountain, then, choosing one of the paths, scramble up the hill behind it. There are several paths.. they all lead to the top of the hill. You can go straight up or kind of meander up from the side.

When you reach the top of the hill (and your heart stops pounding and you can breath again because someone forgot to put oxygen up there!), walk to the silver silo. Cross the creek at the silver slide, either climbing across the slide or leaping gracefully across the creek. Or, like me, in a giant, uncoordinated super-step, crashing onto the other side. If you can do a graceful leap, I'd go with that.
Now you are standing on the other side of the clear creek facing uphill. Good job! A little towards your right you'll see a gully that heads even further up the mountain. From the silver slide walk 40 steps up the gulley.
Turn to your right and climb this hill.
Find the fallen log on the top of the hill and look under the uphill side (NE). Covered by rocks, tucked under the log is the eagle's nest.
