* * * NOTE: This box is missing, as of Jun 08, and there are no plans to replace it. You can still enjoy this hike with beautiful views. * * *
Symbols of Colorado #4: Columbine. There are about 25 species of Columbine in the US, one of them being the state flower. You should see some of them along this hike.
Terrain: Moderate. Steep trails, some climbing. About a 1.8 mile loop.
Clues: Mostly easy, will require some advance research.
Clues:
I was born a Quaker in Delaware, became a General in the US Army, and later founded the city of Colorado Springs. There's a park named after me there.
I was a Colorado Springs teacher who loved the outdoors and developed a nature-based curriculum. There's a trail named after me in the General's Park.
Go clockwise until you reach a hairpin turn marked by a stump. Before you, off-trail, are some small caves. Return 25 paces from the stump to a small tunnel. Due west, 10p a couple of rocks.
Notes:
- No inkpad or pencil in the box, make sure you bring your own.
- Please do not ask me for additional hints without offering a bribe of unpublished clues, hitchhikers, etc.
- Please email me with notes about the box: jelybean.books@comcast.net.
