Come to a tea party at Rocky Neck State Park! Amy is an avid collector of teacups, teapots, etc. So we thought it only appropriate to combine that with her other obsession. There are many other boxes in this park, some of them even on these trails.

This is a 3 box series on a 1.75 mile loop hike on the red trails. Mostly easy, but a few scrambles.

Start at the hiker's parking lot on rt 156 across from Camp Niantic. It's about 1/2 mile west of the Rocky Neck exit ramp off I-95, and free all year.

After parking, head in towards the map board and follow the large path straight back. It actually starts out blue. When you come to the red and blue junction, stay on the red. A few steps later, you will come to a red and red fork. The post will also say "Pavillion" on 1 side and "Bride Brook" on the other. Take the fork toward Bride Brook, or left. Continue on the red through another split, and soon come to a small bridge. Now a stone will will come up to the path on your left. Where the stone wall comes to a corner, start counting. After about 90 paces(I'm very short), stop and look for a large, 3-truncked tree on your left. There will also be a stone ledge on your left. Standing on the path at the tree, take a compass heading of 130 degrees. Looking at the top of the ledge you should see a large tree. Scramble up to it. On the eastern side of the tree, under a rock at it's base, hidden by sticks and leaves, is your teapot.

After stamping in, return to the trail and keep heading in your original direction. Pass through a 4 way intersection with the white trail, staying on red. Keep on the red until it comes out of the marsh into the picnic and parking area. When the trail leaves the woods, turn right and head up towards the paved road. At the road turn right again and head up the gentle slope. Stay on the road until you see the trailhead for the other red trail on your right. Get back on the red and follow it until you come to a junction with blue(the 1st of many). Take a hard left and follow the blue path for about 7 paces. You should see a small path on your right going up the hill. Standing at the tree on the trail at the right side of the small path, take a compass heading of 245 degrees and spot a tree with a large limb on top of the hill. Head up to the tree. At the tree turn around and spot an arrowhead-shaped rock about 2 1/2 feet by 4 feet a few steps back down the path. Under some rocks on the south side of this rock is your teacup.

Return to the path and the junction of red and blue. The 2 trails will join for a time. Follow them until the blue splits off again, and stay on the red. You will see a few more junctions with blue, but just stay on the red. Soon you will see your original red split, and a few steps later, your original red-blue split. From the junction of the red and blue, heading toward your car, walk 18 paces and look for a huge old oak on your left. Behind the oak, between the tree and some rocks and covered by bark, is your final box, sugar and cream.

Now regain your path and head back to your car. I hope you enjoyed your tea party!
