Clues
Time:
20-25 minutes (one way) if you don’t stop to enjoy the surroundings…probably longer if it’s your first visit to Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area.

Difficulty:
Easy/Moderate. Trails are clearly marked for the most part. Check to see your position on the chart at the entrance. If one is prone to ankle sprains it would be wise to wear some support. There are damp areas, so it would be prudent to wear footgear that is appropriate. Stones have been placed to walk on in wet areas.

Northbound on I91: Take exit 19 (Northampton/Amherst) off of Route 91 and continue straight off the ramp through the light across Route 9 onto Damon Road. Continue on Damon Road . You will cross train tracks, and then come upon a set of lights Left will take you to Northampton center. Go straight through the lights…you are now on Bridge Road. Continue on Bridge Road for approximately 2 miles. On your right you will notice a soccer/baseball field complex. There will be a flashing caution light. Take a right onto North Maple St which turns into "North Farms Road". Continue past the soccer/baseball fields on your right and a cemetery on your left. Watch out for cars coming in from the right. Very soon(.4 mi.) on your right you will see a small parking area. This is the entrance to Fitzgerald Lake Conservation area. Information and trail maps are available. Check to see your position on the chart at the entrance.

Southbound on I91: Take exit 20(Northampton/Hadley) off of Route 91. Turn right at the first set of lights onto Bridge Road. Continue on Bridge Road for approximately 2 miles. On your right you will notice a soccer/baseball field complex. There will be a flashing caution light. Take a right onto North Maple St which turns into North Farms Road. See Northbound on I91 -"North Farms Road"......

Eastbound on Route 9: Coming from Williamsburg to Northampton…turn left onto Bridge Road just before the Look Park main entrance on your right. Continue till you come to a flashing caution light. Take a left onto North Maple St which turns into North Farms Road. See Northbound on I91 -"North Farms Road"......

Westbound on Route 9: Coming from Westfield to Northampton thru Florence…turn right onto Bridge Road just after the Look Park main entrance on your left. Continue till you come to a flashing caution light. Take a left onto North Maple St which turns into North Farms Road. See Northbound on I91 -"North Farms Road"......

Clue:

Check to see your position on the chart at the entrance. Look for trails leading you to a destination point of Cooke’s Pasture(although Chip and Dale are not in the pasture).
After entering, follow either the Lake Trail(Blue) or the Hillside Trail (Red). Both trails, at some point, will bring you close to the Chip “n” Dale letterbox.
Continue to hike a bit. Farther on, you will see signs (more than one) leading to Cooke’s pasture. If you find yourself going to the other side of the lake, you are going the wrong way.
You are looking for the name of a trail Jerry Mathers is looking for also. Continue on that trail till you see a hill. Follow the trail up the hill. Just when you feel you have come to the top …..Stop.
Look to your left. Go to the long flat rock. Inch yourself down the back of the rock. Now, facing the rock, you will see a couple of stones blocking the entrance to where Chip and Dale are hiding.
Please replace the stones when you are done to protect the box from the elements…..Thanks.
Have a good time and enjoy your hike. Please let me know if the box has run into troubles by emailing me at dejgprem@comcast.net Thanks
