Clues to Be Kind To The Animals Letterbox
Driving Directions: From The Clock Tower in Sharon, Ct at the junction of Route 41 /343, Head EAST up Route FOUR 2.2 miles, and take a right into Sharon Audubon Center, Bear right to park at entrance.
Clues: Go to trail map sign, and take grass path SOUTH along the split rail fence, There will be a small stream on your right, follow to end. Keep right at end of path onto Bog Meadow Road, go over bridge by the dam with the sugar house on your left. Bear left to Fern Trails. Take another left at Fern Trail with the pond on your LEFT. (Be sure to notice the trees marked along the way-it’s a great way to learn your leaves!)
Keep straight on Fern Trail at the intersection of Bog Meadow and Fern. Then go left at the next intersection onto Hendrickson Bog Meadow Trail and over a wooden footbridge that leads to a small stream (that is easily crossable without getting your shoes wet!) So Cross over and continue on the trail and bear RIGHT at intersection of Bog Meadow and Woodchuck Trail and over another wooden footbridge that leads you to the pond. The trail follows the edge of the pond, over a short 3 foot wooden footbridge to another very long wooden footbridge with benches. Take a rest and enjoy the view of the pond (there are more benches further up the boardwalk on the left).Keep going to end of boardwalk and at the end of the LONG boardwalk Take 15 steps straight down the trail (Pile of logs on your right) and you’ll see a LARGE 2 finger OAK tree on your right in the woods, in the back of this tree , you’ll find the Be Kind To Animals Letterbox. Continue on OAK trail back to Fern Trail, Left on Hendrickson Bog Meadow, Right on Fern, back down to the 1st pond, and left on fern with the pond on your right. Take to end of fern and go right on Bog Meadow trail over Bridge over dam with Sugar house on your left & pond on your right. (here is another bench to sit and admire the view) Continue and take next left that jackknifes back to the west. (enjoy the butterfly garden on your left). Cross the dirt rd. to the path that leads back to your car with stream on your left. Be sure to visit the center, and be kind to the animals!
