8/31/08 - Moon Unit has offered to adopt the box! Yay!

7/3/08 - This box needs to be adopted, I'm not able to drive out and replace the logbook and stamp. Any takers?

12/17/06 - Peter (spiderweb stamp) has graciously offered to move the box to a safer location. I've posted the new directions below. The stamp is still missing and the log book is full, so if anyone wants to offer to help this poor box out, let me know. Otherwise, it will have to wait until after the holidays, as I'm in Northern Cal right now.

8/30/06 - This one has given me so many problems. I have got to move it. Luckily I have a class out there this semester, so I will finally get on it!

11/29/04 - Alas, I've been notified that even though the letterbox is still in place, the stamp and book are missing! Check back to see when I've replaced it.

The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens

1151 Oxford Road, San Marino. Main entrance on Orlando Road at Allen Avenue.
626-405-2100
Hours: Tues - Fri 12:00-4:30, Sat - Sun 10:30-4:30
Summer Hours (Memorial Day - Labor Day): 10:30-4:30 every day but Monday (closed Mondays)

Admission: $15 adults, $10 students, $6 youth. First Thursday of every month is free, but I wouldn't recommend going on a free Thursday. We went on the first Thursday in August and it was worse than Disneyland...they ran out of parking, we had to get a ticket to return to the Children's Park because it was full, we stood an hour waiting for food, and it was hard to enjoy the park because of the mobs of people. It's worth paying the $15 to go at a less crowded time.

Leaving the Entrance Pavilion on the side of the parking lots (i.e. away from the gardens), proceed along the building in southeasterly direction; this leads past some benches to six or so rocks in a group, which were put there to serve as chairs. Behind this row of sitting rocks is a evergreen tree with 5 trunks. The box is hidden in the middle of these trunks, under constantly falling debris from the tree.
