The Kokopelli Letterbox is located just off the Mattabesett Trail (part of the CT Blue Trail system) at Miller Pond at the junction of FootHills Road and Weise Albert Road on the Durham/Higganum Town line. To reach Miller Pond, take Haddam Quarter Road off of Rt. 17 in Durham near the Little Rooster Package Store. Follow Haddam Quarter for quite a distance until you reach Foot Hills Road and turn right onto Foot Hills. Go past the new parking lot for Miller Pond on the right until you see the the forked junction of Weise Albert Rd and Foot Hills Rd. Park on the right side of the road in the old parking area for Miller Pond. You’ll see blue blazes on some trees to your right and a sign marked ‘Closed at Sunset’. Follow this trail to the pond. On your way you will pass some moss covered ledges on the left and a large rock formation on the right. The terrain is hilly but not difficult. If you are hiking with small children, watch for rocks and tree roots on the path. Once you see the pond, turn left to continue on the trail. Go past the tree on your left with graffiti carved all over it. You’ll also pass an area on the left with scattered smaller rock formations and then a large ledge. Go between the two trees marked with white blazes and turn left at the next intersection of paths. (You are still on the blue trail). Go under the bent oak tree and pass by the large flat boulder on the left near the stream bed. Follow the trail along the edge of the pond. At the southernmost tip of the pond, go off the trail to your left and follow the stream bed until you see the twin oak tree. Turn left at the tree that looks like it has legs, about nine paces past the twin oak. The letter box is hidden under the big rock just behind this tree.

Kokopelli is the universal symbol of fertility for all life, be it crops, hopes, dreams or love.
