JUNE 2005 - CONFIRMED MISSING!
Sadness and mourning! I really liked this stamp, so I'll be recarving it and replacing it somewhere close by later this summer. This location must have been just a little too interesting, because noxers kept exploring it...and finding the box accidentally! Lesson learned...choose more obscure landmarks! ;-)

A Redwall Series Letterbox

Salamandastron is the distant mountain home of Badger Lords and their hare-friends. The journey to Salamandastron is long and difficult. If you plan to see the wonders of it, than provision yourself carefully.

Study the maps available at the trail head, and locate the farthest, most difficult looping trail. This will lead you to Salamandastron. Climb the ridge, zig-zagging up the steepest slopes. You will ascend stairs and meander some more. Now you are nearing the top, so watch! Off on your right is the stump of a tree. No mere stump, but a mountain of a stump, hewn by nature into the shape of Salamandastron! Step down to this great, hollow monolith of wood--there is an opening behind, hidden from the trail. The object of your journey lies just inside.

Additional Information:
-This Redwall Series letterbox is located on a strenuous trail, and depending on how you plot your journey, you'll travel at least 4 miles before you're through. To find the trailhead, look for the clue entitled "The Redwall Series"
-Maps and bathrooms are in the information center at the trailhead.
-There are no pets allowed on this particular trail.
-Needless to say, this trail is not stroller-friendly. My seven-year old made the journey without too much fuss, but keep in mind there are no bathrooms up there!
-Bring your own pen and ink pad for stamping in.
-This hand-carved stamp is worth the journey, if I do say so myself!

Watch for more Redwall Series boxes in this area!
