This box has been removed.

The Aycock Brown Welcome Center is prominently identified for travelers approaching the Outer Banks from the north via US 158. It's a good place to pick up maps, brochures, and other information about the area, in addition to viewing informational exhibits. Check out the winged horse located by one of the walkways - you will see many of these as you travel the Beach Road and the Bypass. Also note the Icarus Monument celebrating 100 years of flight, located adjacent to the Welcome Center.

Locate the blue marlin display. It's the 6th largest blue marlin on record (at the time the display was constructed)--945 lbs. Note the information on the fisherman who caught it.

Take the staircase adjacent to the display, and walk up the number of steps equal to the age of the marlin fisherman. Then walk up an additional ten steps. On your left, there used to be a gate with a ramp. The gate has been painted shut, but the ramp is still there. Reach through the fence on the right side of the gate, and find the box underneath the ramp.

It is, admittedly, pretty easy to find, but it's in plain sight, so you'll need to be cautious to avoid being observed while retrieving and replacing the box.

When you replace the box, be sure to re-cover it with twigs and brush. Let us hear from you!
