Claude Moore Park
Sterling, VA
A map at the visitors center may be helpful with this. The path is level and the walk easy. About 30-45 minutes. Lots of other trails around the park. Enjoy!
From Rt. 7, take Cascades Pkwy South. After the light at Nokes Blvd., take the 1st left into Claude Moore Park at Old Vestal's Gap Rd.(be careful! There's no left turn lane into the park).
Park at the visitor's center and head towards Frogshackle Nature Center. Go left down the path just before the fence, over the bridge, and to the orange blaze trail. Go left following the orange blazes.
Follow the orange/yellow trail to the red trail. Take a right onto the red trail and follow it - noting the tree markers along the way. The trail makes a left turn. Walk under an archway of vines/shrubs. At the next junction, note the birdhouse up on the tree to the left of the path. The red trail heads left and the yellow trail right. Take the yellow trail. At the white oak marker, take 20 steps. To the left is a large tree with multiple fallen trees around it. Go around the right side of this tree. In the fork of the fallen tree(the one lying on the ground between the 2 big standing trees) is Cookie Monster!
If you go back to the path and head further up, you come to the blue trail. Just off to the right are benches - a perfect place to stamp in!
Hope you enjoyed! You can continue back around on the red trail to the parking lot at the visitor's center or go back the way you came and look for a short cut through the field to the visitor's center and parking lot.
