This is the first letterbox we have planted. We are open to comments and suggestions from people, so feel free to email us. Thank you!
You will need to bring your own pen and stamp pad. Green would be a good color. The size of the log will not accomodate a stamp that is larger than 2” wide. Log in and return the box to it's location and cover it back over. Always take adequate precautions such as prodding with a stick and/or wearing gloves before reaching into dark crevasses and holes.
This lettterbox is located in Chief Shemauger park in Urbana. The logbook was replaced 8-27-07 during routine maintenance.
The park has small bits of poison ivy growing in it so be careful where you step. If a tree has weeds and tall plants around it I start my count about a step away from it so I don’t have to walk into any potential poison ivy patches.
Clues:
Start in the west parking lot. From here head west into a small groove of trees. In the middle of the trees is a grill, walk over to it. From here, I consider the street North, the cemetary West, the playing fields East, and the thick overgrown woods South. All directions are without a compass and if you move and don’t come exactly to a tree, it is probably the tree that you are closest to. A “step” is just my normal everyday walking step. You will be moving from tree to tree until you get to the letterbox at the end.
