***As of Nov 28, 2006 - this letterbox is retired. The caretaker of the Potts Cemetery has put a chain and lock on the back gate, making this letterbox inaccessable.****
The "Gone Home" letterbox is one of five in a series called "God's Acre", a reference to an old-time expression for a small, country cemetery. There are several of these God's Acres in western Loudoun County, and it is through these back country roads that this series of letterboxes will lead you.
I have always been fascinated by the carvings and epitaphs on old weathered headstones, all the while holding the utmost respect and dignity for those souls about whom I was reading. It is to these quiet places that this series is dedicated.
CLUES:
From Rt.7 in Round Hill, go north on Rt. 719 (Main Street) and follow it along out of town where Rt. 719 will become Woodgrove Road. After a while you will turn left on Rt. 716 (Edgegrove Road). Turn left on Rt. 714 (Shanondale Road) and locate the Old Potts Graveyard on your left. You can park on the grass outside of the gate.
In one door, and out the other
If right is wrong, then left is right
22 steps to a pile, not a cows, but watch your step
Two logs touching with the same diameter
A medium size rock slightly to the right will lead you home.
Stamp in and please rehide well.
