Patuxent River Park is a beautiful multi-use park in Prince George's county Maryland on the Patuxent River between Brandywine and Upper Marlboro. The area is called Croom, but I'm not sure you'd find that on a map.

From route 301, take Croom Rd southeast for approximately 5 miles?.(This is a gorgeous winding country road, but has lots of critters and people driving fast, so be careful)Turn left at sign for Patuxent River Park (Croom Airport Rd) and pay fee at park entrance ($3?, or $5 for annual pass) At the park you can rent canoes, kayaks and visit the nature center. For now, though, return to Croom Airport Rd and take a left(a right takes you back to Croom Rd) and proceed around a bend to the left to the parking lot at the end of the line (where the boat launch is).

There is a paved road that is open to pedestrians and dogs only (except Sunday, watch out for cars!) that extends for approximately one mile before you reach a bridge with a watch tower that features those giant binoculars on a stick. From here you can see a hawks nest and in the far right distance an eagles nest. We have also seen beaver, muskrat, blue herons and twin baby turtles(hence the name) while walking or in the tidal pools.

At the end of the bridge, before you enter Merkle Wildlife Refuge(also very nice and leading to a lookout tower), there is a trail to the right between the downed tree and the road sign. Take just a few steps down this trail to the big hollow log, where you will find the reminder of the two baby turtles that hatched just last week (May 2006) and were approximately the size of my thumb.:)
