This letterbox is called the “Memorial Rose Garden” Letterbox. It is easy but lasts about 30 minutes, so if it's winter time, you better bundle up!
First, the Memorial Rose Garden can be found at the corner of Brooks and Mount in a large open park. I suggest parking on Mount to get a good spot.
There are several memorials in the park, all worth dedicating the proper attention to, but for our purposes, you’ll have to find the Missoula Law Enforcement Memorial (don’t worry; it’s big).
When sitting on the stone benches in front of the sign, you should see a large grid of engraved bricks in the ground, both to the left and right. Go to the right one.
I’ve encrypted a code using the grid. To crack it, you’ll have to label the rows and columns. Label the rows A through J starting in the upper left and working your way down the left side. Now label the columns 1 through 20 starting in the upper left and working your way along the top to the right. The following information can be broken down in two ways. The first chunk of info gives you coordinates in the brick grid, and the string of numbers indicates which letters/symbols are to be used from the words on the brick. I counted all letters, numbers, and major symbols but didn’t count commas, hyphens, and other minor punctuation. Finally, none of the words are jumbled.
For example, take the code “F8: 1, 9." After going to the brick in the grid where row F and column 8 intersect, you take the 1st letter (G) and the 9th letter (O) in the engraving to make the word “GO.”
Now here’s the code:
F8: 1, 9
J19: 1,2
A9: 1, 12, 21
G14: 1, 11, 16, 21
C9: 7, 9
B18: 7, 9, 11, 19
D8: 12, 18, 27, 33, 39, 46
I10: 4, 5, 7, 17
B9: 2, 11, 13, 14, 18, 45, 49
F4: 19, 30, 41, 46
I19: 10, 12, 17, 31, 33
B11: 13, 23, 26, 30
D2: 1, 9, 15, 27, 33
Follow the above instructions, and you’ll find a letterbox!
