This box is in Riley Park which is located on US 40 aka The National Road. The National Road is celebrating its 200th anniversary and this box is placed to commemorate that. The day we planted the box we saw many riders participating in the Race Across America, a bicycle race that goes from Oceanside California to Atlantic City. This road has a significant history which impacted the local area as well as nationally. When I-70 was built many of the towns along US 40 moved north to the interstate. Greenfield has prospered due it its proximity to Indianapolis as well as being the world headquarters of Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical giant.

Riley park is named after James Whitcomb Riley and is located at the east edge of Greenfield. There are boxes by others in the park also. If you park in the area next to the playground, you will need to walk across the green metal bridge toward the "jungle." At the end of the bridge take a compass reading of 202 degrees. You will see two mature sycamore trees in the distance. Walk to the tree that is furthest west. There is a short beaten path that goes back toward the highway--it's about half way between the creek and the tree. Walk 6 paces (2 steps ea) up the path and you should be at the edge of a cement area that has been washed away underneath. About 4 feet up under a curve on the left, the box is hidden under a rock that's a little bigger than all the other rocks laying around.

There weren't many in the park the day we planted, but it is a wonderful, well maintained area. Be sure to cover the box well so that it cannot be seen from the edge of the brush.

If you go to the AQ link, there is a picture of the rock/cement formation that the box is hidden under.
