I carved this stamp over a year ago. Then Hurricane Katrina happened. I have visited the city of New Orleans 3 times, and loved the feel of the city. This box is placed in honor of The Crescent City, and in the hopes that the city will come back better than ever. There is no pen in the box, so plan ahead. Also, if you have stamp pens, purple, green and gold would be perfect for this stamp.

The letterbox is hidden in Fire Prairie Creek Wetland, northeast of the city of Buckner. This is the closest I could come to a swamp in this area of Missouri. The site is open daily. Summer hours (May-Sept.) are 8 am to 8 pm and winter hours (Oct-Apr) are 8 am to 4 pm. To get there, take 24 highway to the east side of town. Take Old Lexington north. Cross over the railroad tracks and turn north on O'Donnell. After a short distance, turn left at the sign for the wetlands. Follow the gravel road, and turn right at the sign that says wetlands. There is a small gravel parking area next to a shelter.

Walk back down the gravel road that you came in on. There will be a gravel trail on the right side. Go 35 steps to a Y, go left. After 32 steps the gravel path ends. Follow grassy trail another 24 steps to a T. Go right. Follow path to a fence line/bench. Staying on the right side of the fence, follow the fence 80 steps to the second bench. From the second bench, go another 65 steps. A wood/mulch trail goes right back into the woods. After 25 steps there will be a PVC pipe on your right. After 48 steps, there is a large tree (cottonwood?) on the right. In the V, under bark, is the box. Please rehide better than you found it.

If you find any bark on the ground along the way, take it with you to help rehide it. Try to practice BICO (box in, trash out) as much as possible. Also, there is something special for the first folks to find the box. Please drop me a quick line and let me know how the box is. Have fun!
