Branched Oak Lake
The state’s most heavily visited recreation area, Branched Oak hosts nearly one million visitors annually on its 1,800 acre lake surface and surrounding 3,960 acres of land. Completed in 1966, Branched Oak is the largest of 10 Salt Creek Flood Control Project dams built by the Army Corps of Engineers to protect the City of Lincoln and surrounding communities. The Lower Platte South Natural Resources District is the local project sponsor. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission developed and operates the lake’s recreational facilities and manages its wildlife resources under a long-term lease agreement with the Corps. A valid Park Entry Permit is required to enter the recreation area.
Directions:
Branched Oak Lake, Raymond Nebraska
15 miles North of Lincoln Nebraska
Note: As of 11-06, Hwy 79 is under construction, so may consider taking 55 M Spur or Malcolm Road through Malcolm to get to the lake.
Area 10, North side of Lake, W. Rock Creek Rd., between NW 98th and NW 112th.
Clues:
Take Area 10 Road to the West. Turn right at stop sign. Before you get to the Camping area there is a Service Road to the right. Stop before the service road. To the left or South, there is a thicket of trees. Visit the tree with 5 trunks.
