**4/27/10 update: Yogi is reportedly missing after a volunteer group was seen cleaning the area. I'll check to confirm Yogi's status asap.**

Yogi Berra was planted on the second annual Plant a Letterbox Day (May 24, 2007). The logbook and stamp had previously been part of a postal letterbox as evidenced by the numerous log-ins from around the country. I hope you have time to read favorite “yogi-isms” and have one of your own to add.

To find Yogi Berra Letterbox, travel to Blatnick Park which is located on River Road in Niskayuna. The portion of River Road you need to go to is between Route 146 and Rosendale Road. The park is named after Jeff Blatnick, a Niskayuna High School graduate who won a gold medal in wrestling in the 1984 summer Olympics. During the late spring and early summer the park is used by the youth Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth baseball leagues. The park also has tennis courts, a basketball court, a skate park and lovely pond for residents to enjoy.

Enter Blatnick Park and go to the end of the parking area (the outfield of the Babe Ruth baseball field). Walk downhill on the bike path toward the Mohawk River. Take a look at the baseball diamonds and imagine how many Yankee-wannabees have played on these fields. Follow the bike path toward the river (passing a gated entrance to the left) continuing until the trails wyes. As Yogi would say, "when you get to the fork in the road take it". (thanks to Koinonia's hubby for the appropriate addition to my clue.) At the wye bear left (you will need to squeeze past the gate, which you'll notice lacks a posted sign) in order to walk on the trail along the river. Just before the wooded area you'll see 2 wooden posts. Look for the box at the base of the left post. (Notice the Department of Energy "No Trespassing" sign beyond the posts). After you rehide the box "better than you found it", retrace your steps.
