Ripley's Believe It or Not! once called Hallettsville the "13 City" because (amazingly and quite coincidentally enough) in 1913 it had 13 letters in the name, a population of 1300 , 13 churches, 13 newspapers, and even
13 saloons !!!
This little city has been the Lavaca County seat since 1852. It is a beautiful Hill Country town rich in Texas History. It has a huge old county court square in the center of town. At Christmastime, this place is a sight to behold.
Directions: From I-10, take 77 Hwy South a little over 20 miles. Once in the Hallettsville city limit, you should be able to see the top of the court, which is very tall. I believe you take a right at 2nd Street, taking you to the Court House Square. (There should be sign pointing out the way.)
Clues: Park near the Gazebo, which is on a corner of the court house grounds. Facing the Gazebo's staircase, the LB is under the left bottom of the stairs, next to a pecan tree trunk. This LB is in a pretty small camo container, not a microbox, though. Reseal and rehide well.
Happy Hunting!
