This series is dedicated to those famous folks born in Tennessee or who became famous while living here. The names will not be provided in the clues but a brief description and their initials will be provided. You may see if you can figure out who they are before looking at the log book cover. Also be aware that some of the containers are not water tight and therefore your courtesy of sealing the inner baggies diligently and completely will be greatly appreciated by myself and finders who will be following you. And if you are letting your children find, open and close the boxes, please verify that everything is sealed up and the container is replaced as and where found, for the welfare of the box and the pleasure of those who follow you. AND PLEASE USE THE FRONT AND THE BACKS OF THE PAGES TO STAMP IN, TO ELONGATE THE LIVES OF THE LOG BOOKS.

Now on with the show:
Please bring with you a compass, signature stamp, ink pad, writing pen or pencil and old rag to wipe off your hands or the box or to kneel upon. In the summer you may need insect repellent but it was not to bad in Nov. when I planted these boxes while visiting on vacation. Also these 6 are all drive up on pretty level ground.

Clues: Boxes 1,2, 3,
Box 1: K.C. (Born March 26, 1968 in Knoxville, raised in Luttrell, TN, Country music superstar, currently the biggest concert performer in country music. Best known for his hits "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem," "When The Sun Goes Down," and "Big Star.") Starting in Pigeon Forge at light number 10 heading toward Gatlinburg on 441. At light 10 zero your odometer and when you get to 6/10 you should be at Caney Creek road where you take a right and stop and park at the pull off on the right along side a row of boulders. Go to the last boulder closest to the "Road Side Pride" sign and count back 3 boulders (including the first). From this boulder look straight across Caney Creek road (075*) at an old stump a little ways up. Box 1 (K.C.) is hiding in this stump. Retrieve him gently so the stump does not fall apart and stamp in your car. Please reseal the baggies securely and return K.C. to the stump as found.

Box 2 D.P. (Born in Locust Ridge near Sevierville, female country music star, song writer, actress & author) back on 441 toward Gatlinburg going 7/10 mile to Gum Sand road and turn right and park in the grass ahead just before the stop sign. Go to the row of boulders on the other side of the road and follow the line the boulders point to up the slight hill. Go that way approximately 5 steps, stop and look left for a rock behind the tree, which is behind the smaller tree. Here you will find D.P.

Box 3 D.C. Note: Box 3 replaced by a good letterboxing friend Hales Angels on 11/11/08. Thank you a bunch Diana.( "King of the wild frontier", Pioneer, Patriot, Soldier, Trapper, Explorer, State Legislator, Congressman, Martyr.) Back on 441 heading for Gatlinburg go approximately 2 miles to Norton Creek/ Cove Mountain Roads. Turn right and park in the parking on the left side of the road. Where the road splits walk to the brown wood sign that says Norton Creek (this is the lower road) walk about 16 paces and stop at a fallen log on the right side. It's the one going up and down the hill. The box is towards the lower end of the log up against a tree. It should be covered by a rock and some leaves. Box 3 or D.C.

Boxes 4, 5 & 6 will be found on the parkway (441) heading from Gatlinburg back to Pigeon Forge.

Box 4 J.H. ( Born in Knoxville, TN on January 2, 1947. Appeared with wild animals on the television show "Late Show with David Letterman.") From light 1 in Gatlinburg heading to Pigeon Forge go 1.7 miles and turn right at Beech Branch road. Stop at the road sign for Beach Branch Road /Little Smokey Road and park. Walk up and face the sign and then look straight left across the road at the two large evergreens. Go look behind the one on the right for Box 4 (J.H.) Note: you can get back in your car and drive ahead a little and turn left into a large gravel area and park and retrieve this box from the upper side also.

Box 5 T.T. ( Rock and Roller born in Nutbush, best remembered by her hit album "Private Dancer".) Get back on 441 north and go another 1.7 miles to King Branch Road (Gnatty Road is also located here) and go right on King Branch about 1/10 mile and notice the pull off on the other side of the road....just before a sharp left curve in the road. (if you get to houses you went to far) Make your way to that pull off and park. Find (T.T.), the 5th box behind the large Sycamore that grows behind the pull off about mid way of the length of pull off.

Box 6 J.D. (Born September, 1850. The largest Tennessee Whiskey maker in the world. Died in 1911 of blood disease from a toe injury.) Now go back and find Gnatty Road and take it to the left. Follow it a short way to a sharp bend to the right and pull off into the area on the left, well short of the rusted out gate. Look to the left for a large boulder and find box 6 (J.D.) behind the large rock between the rock and a cut log.

This completes series 1 of Famous Tennesseeans and I hope you enjoyed the stamps in the series. I wish I could have had more scenic views but most good ones are located in the Ntl. Park and I had difficulty finding great views elsewhere.
