I have had this stamp carved for about a year before I finally got it placed. As you come into Elizabeth on Hwy 20 you can't miss the sign to the Apple River Fort. I suggest going into the vistitors center and learning about the fort and Chief Blackhawk.

Now on to the letterbox. You can drive up to the fort but I suggest taking the nice walk of about a quarter of a mile. When you get up there, if the visitors center is open, you can go in a look around at what the fort may have looked like at the time.

Go to the back of the fort to the chimney. With you back to it go straight to the wooded area and a little to the right. You will see a small trail leading in. Just as you get in there will be a large tree to your right with anouther right next to it. Look to one a little past it with a notch at the base. The box will be waiting for you. Stamp in and rehide.

Enjoy the step back in time to the early life of the people from this area.
