This is a micro box and is in the Palisado Cemetery. From the intersection of Rts. 159, 75 and 305, head north on Rt. 159. This is Palisado Ave. Just after you cross the river, the cemetery will be on your left. Enter and drive to the back.

Windsor is 375 years old this year. That’s pretty old for the U.S. The Palisado Cemetery has been around almost from the beginning. You will find a number of stones from the 17th century mixed in with others from later times. Many of the older stones are still readable. It is said that the oldest date for a legible stone in any New England cemetery is here. It belongs to Reverend Ephraim Huit who died in 1644. The stone has an epitaph which may be the oldest in the country since epitaphs didn’t often appear on gravestones before the 19th century. We couldn’t find it so if you do, drop a line and tell me where it is. The oldest we found was 1675.

Also here is a stone which is supposed to be one of the largest markers made from red sandstone in all of New England. It belongs to Dr. Timothy Mather. Your search for PUD #56 starts here.

Stand between the head and foot stones. Sight a line long 187◦ to a biggish tree. Go to the tree and look in the base. Cover well when you’re done.
