Aloha Kauai (missing) LbNA #43286 (ARCHIVED)

This was our second trip to Hawaii, but our first time on Kauai. This drive up to Waimea Canyon, and the hiking here is breathtaking. This lookout is awesome, but don't stop here. Keep going all the way until the road ends, stopping along the way for different angles of view. Get gas before you go, if you plan on going all the way to the top, it's 40 miles roundtrip, with a 4,000 foot elevation gain. There are plenty of lookout areas with restroom facilities, so don't worry about that. There are more good hiking trails in this area than anywhere else in Hawaii. Pick one or more and make it a day. Four wheel drive will cut some time off of some of the hikes if you have it.

To find the box:
From Waimea on the West side of Kauai, take Waimea Canyon Drive. Past the 10 mile marker, stop at the Waimea Canyon Lookout. Off to the right of the parking lot you will see handicapped accessible restrooms. Facing the restrooms, look up to the right, there is a large tree stump. Keep looking up and to the right past the first stump, you will see a second large tree stump, at what appears to be the beginning of a trail, but it dead ends right away. At the base of this second tree stump is where you will find your box.
