If you Hike from CT state line AT trail entrance...
it's 7.7 miles over the peaks of Mt. Race then Everett. Plan for at least a +5 hour envigorating hike. Bring plenty of water. You may choose to walk to the peak from the Everett parking lot, it's not too difficult, but you'll miss out on many spectacular and beautiful sights.
For the full hike, prepare by parking your car at the base of Mt. Everett in the parking area. This is your finishing point. Take your second car to the AMC lot located further down on East Street (it turns into a dirt road) located right on the CT border. Start your hike here, headed through the woods southeast until you reach the Appalachian Trail which takes a sharp left and goes down, down into Sages Ravine. So Beautiful! Just keep following the well marked AT blazes for several miles and enjoy yourself:) It's an incredible stretch of trail. When you finally reach your second peak, congratulate yourself. Whew! What did you think of that final ascent? Find your reward! You are standing at 2603 ft. where a fire tower used to stand. From the western most pedestal take five paces north, then three paces at 45 degrees. While there may be a branch in your face, there should be a rock under your feet. Look there for the purple dragon's box. Well done. To get to your car, don't be tricked by the spray painted sign directing you to your car. Just keep following the AT until it intersects with the dirt road.. which then leads you gracefully to your waiting car.
