Batter up! Hear that call!
The time has come for one and all
To play ball.
We come from cities near and far.
We've got Canadians, Irishmen and Swedes,
We're all for one, we're one for all
We're All-Americans!
Each girl stands, her head so proudly high,
Her motto 'Do or Die.'
She's not the one to use or need an alibi.
Our chaperones are not too soft,
They're not too tough,
Our managers are on the ball.
We've got a president who really knows his stuff,
We're all for one, we're one for all,
We're All-Americans!

One of my favorite movies is A League of Their Own. It tells the story of how the first women’s baseball league got started in 1943. It lasted until 1954. There were four original teams that made up the league that first year. They were the Rockford Peaches, Kenosha Comets, Racine Belles, and South Bend Blue Sox. Since the movie was released this piece of history has fascinated me. I have visited old ball fields, visited Cooperstown, New York, and have met and talked with former players at autograph sessions. In talking with the players, I realized that the movie does not do the league justice. These women were great ball players and were very proud of the league that they played in. Today the young softball fans across the nation can enjoy professional softball games again.

The South Bend Blue Sox played at Bendix Field and later Playland Park in South Bend, Indiana. As far as I can tell, Bendix Field is now the airport. The Blue Sox were in the leagues from 1943-1954. They won the league championship in both 1951 and 1952. Softball is still popular in South Bend. While searching for a place to hide this box I stumbled across the Belleville Softball Complex.

As you can probably guess the box is located in the Belleville Softball Complex. In order to find the box you must enter through the back entrance, off Evergreen Ln. There are many ways to get to the box. When placing the box there was a huge softball tournament going on at the main entrance, so my directions will be to the back entrance. While moving past the airport take Mayflower Rd south. Then turn left on Sample St. About ½ mile you will need to turn right on Evergreen Ln. This will take you into the back of the complex. Once in the complex take the first right through the parking lots. After a short distance, turn left into the farthest parking lot. Park in the southwest corner and look for a tri of trees. The letterbox is nestled in the base of the coniferous tree that is directly across from the 2nd tree in the trio, along the outfield fence. Please re-hide well. Also please drop me a line when you find it.

Please check out the other three boxes in the series. Rockford Peaches, Rockford, Illinois- Racine Belles-Racine Wisconsin- Kenosha Comets- Kenosha, Wisconsin.
