This letterbox can only be reached by kayak or other water craft.
Bring your own inkpad. If you are feeling generous, please leave it!

1. Launch kayak at Essex Town Park off of Main Street (behind Post Office).
2. Turn left and paddle between Thatchbed Island (on your right) and the main land (on your left).
3. Paddle around the end of the penninsula, bearing to the left, to the Essex Marina.
4. When the large red "Essex Boat Works" building is on your left, turn right. You will see a large sandy beach across the river.
5. Paddle toward the beach between two yellow buoys (labeled "I", on your left and "F" on your right. The beach has a number of large logs at the water line.
6. Beach your kayak here.
7. Climb up the sandy hill. You may see bonfire remnants here.
8. Follow the path across the field in front of you.
9. At the end of the field, bear left 90 degrees. There will be a small fir tree about ten feet ahead on your right at appx. 2:00. Start counting your strides from here.
10. Walk appx. 60 strides. You will find a small circle of stones buried in the ground.
11. Look ahead and you will see two fir trees at approximately 10:00 and 11:00. Go to the larger of the two trees.
12. Circle the tree counter-clockwise looking into the branches at about 6 feet up. You should find the letterbox here.
