A dolphin in the desert? You've got to be kidding. Yes we are, but there are "fish" in the desert and this is what you will find if you follow the directions carefully.

North of Las Vegas, there's a dry lake bed. This little fish decided to venture away from home and tried to catch a train. He was unsuccessful. So he made a new home for himself near the train tracks.

Using I-15, it doesn't matter if you're leaving or approaching Las Vegas. You will take Exit 64, Great Basin National Park Highway or also known as Highway 93, exit for Pioche and Ely. On the west side of the interstate is a service road. Go NORTH on this road for 5.7 miles. You will come to a gravel road on your right (EAST). Go .3 miles toward the old train watering tower (you can't miss it). DO NOT CROSS THE TRACKS...IT'S A WORKING SYSTEM AND WE DON'T WANT ANYONE HURT. Park in front of this tower. You will see a corner post next to a dirt road that runs along the base of a gravel embankment. Walk about 24 paces south. STOP. You should be even with the blue "D" sign up on the track. Near the bottom of this embankment, below the sign you will find the "Desert Dolphin" among some debris, rocks, metal plate and hiding inside a "dead" basketball will be the box. PLEASE, when replacing the box, place the cut edge of the ball down. It DOES occasionally rain in the desert and we don't want water to accumulate. Enjoy!

UPDATE: A Hand Carved stamp was added 10-31-09

UPDATE: 2-27-10...Today we did "box maintenance" and this box is well and good. Please record your finds!
