After getting off the beaten path, there are some above par things to see in Atascadero. Take a walk and enjoy– depending on the season– birdwatching, wild flowers, and deer creeping through the grass. Year-round, the majestic oaks will hold their arms open to you as a welcome.
Heading east on Curbaril Road, turn right on the last residential street before the railroad tracks. There is a designated parking area at the trailhead. The trail is a lovely loop– it doesn’t matter which way you go.... At just the right point in your walk, you’ll come across a park bench. After stopping for a moment to appreciate the view and the “wildlife” that you’ll see mingling below [if you’re quiet you can even hear their banter– sometimes it’s dull, sometimes it’s juicy] stand with your back to the back of the bench. Walk as many paces as there are holes in golf, straight ahead, UP a slight hill [we’re not leading you over the side of a cliff– if you’re faced that way TURN AROUND! =)]
A fallen wooden case contains the Letterbox. No matter how you slice it, you’ll have a bogey good time.
