Thomas the Tank Engine visited Connecticut recently!!! He left behind some great letterboxes for us to find! Help us celebrate his 60th anniversary by finding these boxes. They will only be available for a limited time (until mid-July).

Box #1: On his way to the Essex Steam train station, Thomas had to pass through the Amtrak-Saybrook junction. You can find this at 455 Boston Post Road in Old Saybrook, CT. It’s just off I-95. Thomas noticed a great cemetery behind the station. When you go through the gates of Upper Cemetery, turn right and go all the way to the wall at the north end. You will see a large 4 sister tree. Just to the right of this tree, there is a pillar in the wall. Here you will find a memento of Thomas’ best friend, Percy.

Box #2: From the Saybrook junction, Thomas traveled north to Essex. You can’t follow the railroad, but here are directions for the road. Take CT 9 north to exit 4 (CT-154). Turn right off the exit. You will see a Park and Ride on your right. Thomas thought this would be a perfect place for his friend Harold the Helicopter to land (if there weren’t cars!). Go all the way to the back of the parking lot and park in the southwest corner near where the fence ends. Scoot behind the fence to the large tree. Look down and to the left to a flat brown stone. Harold is hiding under here.

Box #3: Now, we’ll head to the Essex train station. Go south on CT-154. It will turn left onto Main St. When you cross the RR tracks, you’ll see Railroad Ave. on your right. Turn in here and park near the ticket office. This is where Thomas held his Day Out Adventure. There are some great trains to look at. You can look at some old coaches, including Connecticut Valley 603, if you cross the tracks and the black gravel parking lot. Behind the corner of the 603, you’ll see a small 5 sister tree up the little hill. Here you will find Thomas and the log book.

Hope you enjoyed your Thomas and Friends Adventure! Be sure to look for James and Henry in the Thomas and Friends Adventures #2 and #3.
