Take the Woodstock exit from I81. Turn onto 42/West Reservoir toward the fast food restaurants. When you get to the lighted intersection of routes 42 (West Reservoir) and 11, stay on West Reservoir. Within 1/2 mile, turn left onto N. Water Street. Follow N. Water Street until it intersects Mill Road. Turn right onto Mill Road. From Mill Road, Turn left onto Woodstock Tower Road. Follow Woodstock Tower Road up to the top of the hair-pin curved mountain road, even when it forks with Stage Coach Road (Stay to the left). When you are getting close to the top of the mountain, you will see a parking lot with a little brown sign marking Massanutten Trail on the right side. Keep going up to the top parking lot which will be directly in front of the stone sign for the Woodstock Tower.

Park and follow the foot path less than 1/4 mile to the Tower. At the base of the Tower, there is a small path to the left. Follow the path until you see a large (approximately 6 feet wide) rock to the left of the path. Continue past this rock.
Follow the path (stay to the left if you see any other path diverging from it) until it dips down to intersect another path. Cross over the intersected paths to a large area of rocks. (In warmer months, look beyond tree/brush growth to identify the area of rocks.)

Amongst these rocks, note odd rocks-like two twin GIGANTIC Moray Eels emerging together from the water, one whose mouth is open.
The letterbox is in one of the crevices under a rock about ten feet before you get to the gigantic rocks.

If you have not already taken advantage of the view from the top of the Woodstock Tower, it is recommended that you do.
AND...If you are fortunate enough to come to the Tower on the right day, you might even be able to see someone descending off a nearby cliff in an ultralight glider!

*You might also want to check out the SEVEN BENDS letterbox, also located in Woodstock in close proximity! With all due respect, it was planted in Woodstock first, prior to my little seedling. I had put mine in the same exact spot only to discover Seven Bends LB less than 3 feet away! It has been replanted further on down the path as described above (3/18/04) since the tree that originally shaded the rock and letterboxes has broken and fallen over the path. Seven Bends is still in its original location, but covered up a little more. )
