NOT SURE OF THE STATUS OF THIS LETTERBOX - HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO VISIT THIS ISLAND IN QUITE SOME TIME. ON MY NEXT VISIT TO THE ISLAND, I WILL ATTEMPT TO LOCATE IT AND UPDATE THE STATUS. IF YOU ARE ABLE TO LOCATE IT, PLEASE NOTIFY ME. THANK YOU.

Dedicated to Brittany and Cristina, always let your true colors shine!

It takes both rain and sunshine to make a rainbow.

What does that mean for you?

For me, it means that as we travel down the road of life (sort of like the "Road to Hana"), there are challenging times that test our wit (like anticipating a car coming around the curve), our willingness to accept (accepting that the rain comes as does the sun), and our courage to continue (the narrow road may be slippery but we can be brave enough to venture all the way around the island).

Contrastly, there are great times which constantly surprise, replenish and reward us - sort of like the spectacular views of lush mountains rising out of the crystal clear ocean, the sunshine and cool, gentle, roadside waterfalls, and the [you guessed it] "rainbow" letterbox!

Start your journey on the "Road to Hana" early in the morning (7AM or 8AM) to allow a full day to enjoy the unique beauty of this ride. I found that the little pull-offs along the way were perfect for little hikes or waterfall spying (if you simply rush just to get to Hana, you might miss hidden waterfalls that will take your breath away). These little stops make the trip a super adventure and definitely headline the ride.

On the winding way to Hana, you will come upon the Ke'anae Arboretum. It comes up pretty quick, so keep an eye out for it. I found a parking spot across the street from the entrance to the trail. Park there, and then carefully cross the street to the entrance. This trail begins with some colorful flowers and the path is very straight.

Eventually the trail will become surrounded by a towering variety of palm trees and many other types of trees and becomes winding. Follow the main path until you almost reach the "end" (there is not a clear ending, but you will know). On your left, there is a stone wall that leads almost to a stream. The letterbox is hidden somewhere in this wall. (Hint: You will probably be on your way BACK from finding the end of the trail.)

If you have time, when you return to your car, there is a road that leads down to the coast where you can witness the power of the ocean as it crashes onto the shoreline.
