This is a letterbox / geocache hybrid canister; in addition to a logbook and miniature stamp and pad, it has some tiny treasures to exchange (it was initially stocked with a few marbles, dice, and foreign coins).

The hiding place is in a big gap in the old stone wall that runs out back of Wadsworth Mansion. (Please don't disrupt any stones! Even adult hands should be able to reach in and grab it, once the container is spied within its little cave.)

To approach by way of a short woods hike, park along the dirt road stretch of Laurel Grove Rd, just north of the giant brownstone gate into the woods. Enter through that giant brownstone gate, turn right, and follow the path just a few minutes: it will soon bend around to the left and up the hill towards the grounds in back of the mansion. At the top of this hill, there's an intersection with a broader path, with a stone wall running along it in both directions. Turn RIGHT (without crossing through the gap in the wall), and start looking for a little cave within the stone wall. Hint: the hiding place is very close to the second STUMP along the near side of the wall.

(The spot can also be approached from the back of Wadsworth Mansion or from the back of Mercy High School; just begin where the old stone wall is interrupted by a path crossing through.)
