I moved into this area a few years ago. Living under a mountain isn't easy.
An animal had been visiting my house regularly. Getting into the bird feeders and then the Tuesday morning garbage. I had to do something about him. I decided to go looking for him up at that stone monument. It was a hot day, so I took plenty of water and a few snacks. At the summit, I saw no sign of him, just a few people. I must have passed him on the way up, so back down I went. Slowing as I heard growling. Nearby on the left, were two pitch pines each slashed white. A narrow path between them. There he was under the middle slanted stone. So we had a chat:

He told me he was tired of living on the second highest mountain in these parts that is visited by so many people. I told him in the early morning hours and all night you could hang out there at the monument tower. That it would be best if he stayed away from fast foods and to continue eating blueberries and other grubs. Being an amiable fellow, he saw reason and agreed. Besides, he said, "One night I might head over to that taller mountain to bag me an octopus!" We then parted on good terms.

Hope you find him in good health and part on good terms too! Please be careful of others on the trail.
