Wings of Nature Box #17
Hubbard Valley Park
8600 Hubbard Valley Road
Seville, Ohio 44273
Go to the Hubbard Valley Park Entrance and not the Buffalo Creek Entrance.
Needs: Ink Pad, water, candy and the two most important: a map and your Lensatic Compass.
The bearing will be in Mils.
When you get to the parking lot, and you do not have a map, walk over to the board to check out where you are at and pick one up. You are going to be following the white trail to get over the blue trail. Follow the white trail over to the sledding area. Go right on the sidewalk. You may walk around either way, it will take you to the bridge. Go ahead cross over… See whoooo you are! Follow the blue trail. You will walk for a bit, check out the tree canopies. You never know what you may see if you look up. You will cross a little bridge.
Keep walking for a bit, you will come up to the ridge edge and you will start to see the Lake through the trees.
Keep going, you will come to another bridge. Go ahead cross over.
As soon as you step off the bridge go 48 paces.
(what size is a pace, they equal 2 ½ feet) depending on your size. You might have to do 52 paces….
And the left side you will see a tree that says “I love Bill”. Look to the right You will see a Big Huge tree on your right with a lot of carvings. Check out the one that says POE ---you want to remember the number under the name or are they initials? Write it down!
Look up when you are on the trail…. Seeing circles…..? Check out that tree!
Keep walking until you get to the overlook, (& 2 benches) stop and check out the view. There will be another bench just down the way. Go sit on that one. The Name on the Bench is Richard.
Now we do the math.
Take Richard’s year of birth and subtract the secret POE number.
You will have a bearing of _(_?_)_ which is in Mils (outer black numbers)
While you are sitting on the bench facing the lake, take the subtracted number (Birth# - POE#) as your bearing/heading. You have found Wings of Nature Box #17.
Please be sure to re-hide the envelope under the rocks.
