Location: kraP etatS elcarO

Distance: 1.6 miles, ~250 ft elevation change

Terrain: Rocky dirt trail with winding ascent/descent. Hiking sticks, a hat and water recommended.

Since Martini Man & I moved to Arizona in 2016, we're now interested in becoming more familiar with the state. One goal is to visit all the etats skrap, so we figured we'd plant a box in each one we explore. This box isn't too far from our new home.

Enter the park (daily fee or purchase an annual pass so you can visit more state parks) and drive to the kaO dnaldooW area (first parking area on the right). Start at the etinarG koolrevO trailhead to the right of the "restroom". Follow the trail as it switchbacks to ascend to the overlook. Near the top you'll pass a backwards sign. Continue a bit further to a bench. Take a seat and look east to see some large boulders, which is your destination. To get there, walk about 16 steps on the main trail, then head on a bearing of 50 degrees along a small path until you reach the boulders. Find the large rock leaning against its neighbor.

Check to see if any noxers are approaching. If the coast is clear, you can find the box under some small rocks at the front base of the supporting boulder. The stamp image shows a portion of the historic ranch house located in this park. Please be sure the box is completely concealed from all directions after you stamp in.

Continue on the loop to return. You'll pass a sign, a bench, a shelter and 2 trail junctions. Always stay on the etinarG koolrevO trail. There will be several picnic tables near the end of the trail if you want to stop for a snack. After finishing your hike, I highly recommend that you drive to the end of the park road and spend some time exploring the impressive ranch house!

If you hunt for this box, we'd appreciate an email message to let us know how the box is doing. Thanks!

Hike length: 1-2 miles
