Four sisters grew up in suburban Philadelphia. Their family had a summer cabin in nearby Kent, and they enjoyed countless hours here at Mt. Tom. Though each sister took her own path in life, it is undeniable that the natural beauty they found here influenced each of their lives in profound ways. We hope you enjoy retracing their steps around Mt. Tom!

The First Sister
Park in designated parking lot near the swimming area. Return by foot to the paved road that loops around the park, heading west. You will pass some dumpsters. Then, before the guard house, turn left onto a short access road. At the end of the access road, turn left again. You have already been on this road in the car. After walking about 25 paces, you will see a very large rock, about the size of a large pickup truck. Go behind the rock to a large three-sister oak tree. The First Sister is in the crook of the tree.

The Second Sister
Return to the loop road, continuing to the east. Turn right at the sign for the Tower Trail. Proceed through the gravel parking area, and continue on the gravel path. At the first intersection is another sign for “Tower Trail.” This is where another gravel path goes off to the left, and a log forms a gate. Directly behind the “Tower Trail” sign is a low, table-sized rock. Go behind the rock to meet the Second Sister. (If you would like to hike to the tower, do so now, and come back to resume the Four Sister series here). Please be sure to recover the box when you are done.

The Third Sister
Return to the loop road, continuing to the east. Just before the hairpin turn, you will walk through a grove of evergreen trees. Towards the end of the grove, there is a small gravel pull-off on the right. On the left side of the road, about 3 feet off the road, is a rock that stands alone in a string of rocks. There is not a tree adjacent to this rock. It is about 30 paces back from the sign that reads “Private Road. Do Not Enter.” Go behind and under the rock to meet the Third Sister.

The Fourth Sister
Go around the big curve and continue on the loop road, now heading west, following the sign for Park Exit. At the very beginning of a long stonewall on the right, there is a tall tree. Step down to the tree. The box is tucked inside the end of the wall, under two triangular rocks, just below the tree (toward the pond).
