The Bare Necessities is a song from the animated 1967 Disney film The Jungle Book, sung by Phil Harris as Baloo the bear and Bruce Reitherman as Mowgli the young boy. This series consists of things in the song that Baloo wants, so I changed the name to Bear Necessities. It is appropriately located on the 45SW Trail, a 4.5-mile paved shared use path along the 45SW Toll Road that crosses over Bear Creek.

Directions:
From FM 1826 go southeast on TX 45 for 2.5 miles, staying right onto TX 1 (MOPAC), then right onto Archeleta Blvd as it curves left under TX 45 Toll rd. Turn right into parking lot and park near front.

Box 1: Mother Nature - "Look for the bare necessities, The simple bare necessities, Forget about your worries and your strife, I mean the bare necessities, Old Mother Nature's recipes, That brings the bare necessities of life".
Walk on cement path south under TX 45 to 45SW Trail and go left on it about 0.25 mi to stone benches & signs about prehistoric TX on right. Go right between benches 10 steps to leftmost wood post at fence. LB is between post & bush in front of it under rocks & leaves.

Box 2: Bees - "Wherever I wander, wherever I roam, I couldn't be fonder of my big home, The bees are buzzin' in the tree, To make some honey just for me".
Continue on trail 0.25 mi to sign about the Hill Country on left just after big sign for 45 SW Toll Rd. Facing sign, go right 15 steps to second stone in low wall of stones next to trail across from large tree. LB is at back of stone under rocks & black felt.

Box 3: Ants - "When you look under the rocks and plants, And take a glance at the fancy ants, Then maybe try a few".
Continue on trail 0.25 mi to end of white rocks in drainage on right. Go right behind the rocks to metal fence post a little to the right. LB is between fence post & a bush in front of it under a rock & leaves.

Box 4: Pawpaw - "Now when you pick a pawpaw, Or a prickly pear, And you prick a raw paw, Well next time beware".
Continue on trail 0.25 mi, just before crossing under power lines, to tree on right with branches reaching over trail & metal marker #7969 at back. LB is at back base under a rock & leaves.

Box 5: Prickly Pear - "Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw, When you pick a pear, Try to use the claw".
Continue on trail about 150 yds to jct with Hill Country Classroom & go right to it (stone benches & signs). Continue past far bench 7 steps then right off trail past a boulder 12 steps into a clump of oak trees. LB is between far side tree & a bent one behind it with vines, under a rock & leaves.

Box 6: Baloo - "Look for the bare necessities, The simple bare necessities, Forget about your worries and your strife, I mean the bare necessities, That's why a bear can rest at ease, With just the bare necessities of life".
Continue on trail 0.5 mi to two stone benches on right. Continue 8 steps then go right 5 steps to medium oak tree with bushes around it. LB is at back base under a rock & leaves. You can continue on trail about 0.25 mi to scenic overlook of Bear Creek before heading back.
