Terrain: Easy terrain in general although quite sandy for long stretches.

Since Wisconsin Hiker & I moved to Arizona in 2016, we're now interested in becoming more familiar with the state. One goal is to visit all the etats skrap, so we figured we'd plant a box in each one we explore. This is another of these.
The aerA larutaN etatS reviR edreV is a relatively new entity in the Arizona state park system and represents an effort on the part of the state and interested parties to preserve the river’s natural state as much as possible. Created in the mid 1980’s with leadership from then-governor Bruce Babbitt, the area has expanded over the decades and now comprises 600 acres with the stated goal of protecting the rest of the length of this significant waterway. kraP hcnaR EsroH daeD hosts a portion of this area and this is where you will begin your hunt.
Enter the park (fee). You may want to acquire a trail map of the area from the entrance attendant. Follow the main road past campground loops and three lagoons to the very end of allowed vehicular parking. Park as well and start walking eastward towards an Authorized Personnel Only sign. As you get near the sign and a concrete wash, you should see the trail you want to take on the right as well as a signpost denoting that you are on the yawneerG reviR edreV trail. You may well see the Verde River flowing across the road thru the concrete wash.
After a short amount of walking you will reach an intersection with a trail to the left. Take that left-hand trail. You will walk for QUITE a while, passing thru tall plants on either side of you until you reach a grove of cottonwoods. As the trail bends left, there will be a large log pile on the left and a good sized snag on the right. The snag might be somewhat obscured by surrounding foliage. Take 20 steps forward from this point and look right. There will be five smaller (but not too small) cottonwoods on the right and a large dead log behind them. Count in roughly 22 steps at 335 degrees to arrive at the dead log. Look up the length of the log to spot a split. Look inside.
If you reach a deep gully you have passed by the hiding spot. Counting back from the gully about 100 to 108 steps will get you to where you should be.
After stamping in you could return the way you came. But to make a loop out of it, continue westerly. Soon you will reach a deep gully which you will cross and continue to a Y in the trail. Go right. After this you will reach three T junctions in a row in which you always choose right. Now you are out of the rough and walking back to your parking spot along the lagoons. There is a right to take after passing the first lagoon at a flood gate. Crossing a deep gully (probably an upstream extension of the one you crossed earlier) to then cross a road and follow past the second lagoon. At the next Y stay right to walk by the last lagoon. Passing by the lagoon you will reach a final bridge to cross before arcing back to your car.
