White's Ferry opened in the late 18th century, carrying people and vehicles across the Potomac between Poolesville, Maryland and Leesburg, Virginia. Service ended several years ago due to a dispute between the ferry operators and the owners of the landing in Virginia.

The loss of the ferry has caused significant damage to the economies of Poolesville and Leesburg. Crossing the Potomac now requires a long drive to one of the bridges north or south of the ferry crossing. We hope that a compromise will be reached so that this historic ferry can reopen.

To find this letterbox go to the corner of Wootton and Fisher Avenues in Poolesville, Maryland and look for the sign for Campbell Park. Park along Wootton Avenue, then walk along the sidewalk into the park. You'll pass a Little Free Library on your right, and then a trash can on your left.

Looking into the park, you'll see the two biggest trees in the middle of the park just ahead of you and slightly to the left. The tree on the right is hollow, with an opening facing you. The letterbox is inside.

After stamping in, please return the box to its hiding place deeply enough that it can't be seen, but not so deep that the next finder will have trouble pulling it back out!
