Cell signal can be spotty here so be sure and bring a copy of the instructions with you (photo or printed copy).

Beginning at the top of Walnut Avenue, near the Nature Center, the fire road leads to the Verdugo Mountain Way Trail. The Verdugo Mountain Way is an extensive trail system which extends from the Sun Valley area, south to Brand Park in Glendale, and northeast to Tujunga and La Crescenta. This box does not require the Nature Center to be open but the Park closes at dusk.

Start at the Trail Head sign to explore the trails available to you from here. The View is .6 Miles but .9 Miles will get you to the The Saddle. If you have some time, the hikes are worth it for the views alone.

From here take the wood bridge across to the Nature Center and find your way to the backside. From here you can take in the view up the canyon. There is plenty of seating if you DID take one of the hikes and need a rest.

Did you pass a tall bronze statue? Go back to it and follow the gaze of the OWL to determine your next step. Take 55 steps in that direction and then stop. Turn to your left 90 degrees and walk along the sidewalk until you find a path made of stones on your left that appears to take you down to the creek bed. Enjoy this short walk which lets you take in the Nature Center and the wood bridge from a different perspective. You might find a good spot for placing a letter box of your own.

But if you are looking for ours, retrace your steps to the trail marker for the Shane Colin Proffit Trail (established May 22, 2015) and carefully look behind it. Watch out for prickly plants. Please be careful to return it to the same spot, without being caught by unknowing muggles. Ideally the red lid should not be visible from either path.

The Quail stamp was carved by Arden Lans specifically for this letter box, placed in honor of Amy Ellis' Birthday. Special thanks to Burbank Girl Scout Troop 70481 for inspiration.
