Ebbitts Pass, aka Hwy 4, is a 8731 foot pass between Markleeville and Bear Valley. Every July this pass, as well as adjacent passes, are taken over for a day by the infamous Death Ride, involving thousands of (nutso) bicyclists who vie to ride 5 very tall summits in 1 day.

While husband & friends train in these mountains, I follow with food, water and letterbox. So, Ebbitts Dragonfly is the first box to be placed, but definately not the last. As the fellows train, I will hide boxes on all the passes.

At the summit of Ebbits Pass, the letterbox hides. Drive (carefully) up to the top of the summit. Stop and enjoy the scenery. It's a good as it can get. There's a little lake almost at the summit--a great place to have lunch. On the west side of the summit (the Bear Valley side) there is a turnoff where you can park. Across the road you will see a National Park sign. The box lives at the top of the hill behind the sign.

Hike up to the top of the hill--you can traverse around the hill--and at the top you will find a group of rocks. One large rock is sitting atop a number of smaller rocks. Under the big rock, between the smaller rocks, you will find the Ebbitt Dragonfly.

GPS reading is:
N 38 degrees 32.675'
W 119 degrees 48.770'
Elevation 8783+

The hike is short with moderate elevation gain, so hiking boots are suggested.

If you find the box, please send me an email: luckeeeedawg@yahoo.com

Enjoy!
